What is the best time for breakfast?

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), breakfast is considered an essential meal and should ideally be consumed between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. This time frame aligns with the body's natural circadian rhythms and is an optimal time for supporting digestion and promoting overall health.

The period between 7 am and 9 am is when the stomach is most active. During this time, food can be processed most efficiently.

In TCM, breakfast is seen as an opportunity to kickstart the body's digestive fire, or "Spleen Qi," which governs the transformation and transportation of food. Eating a balanced and nourishing breakfast during this time is thought to provide the body with the energy it needs to function optimally throughout the day.

It is recommended to have a warm and easily digestible breakfast, incorporating foods such as porridge, warm soups, steamed vegetables, and herbal teas.

Cold or raw foods are generally avoided, as they are harder on the digestive system and may disrupt the body's balance.

Ideally, aim to have breakfast at a consistent time each day since our bodies appreciate routine. However, it's essential to listen to your body.

If you haven't had breakfast for years but want to change this habit, we suggest beginning with a small, easily digestible meal at the same time every day. Soon, you will notice that you naturally feel hungry at that designated time.

As with any dietary advice, individual needs and preferences may vary, and it's essential to listen to your body and find what works best for you.

Consulting with a qualified TCM practitioner or nutritionist can provide personalized guidance based on your specific health and constitution.

Take care of yourself!
